Pony Club
4-5 PM on Fridays
Our Pony Club Program is a group that meets weekly on Fridays after school, that promotes a love for horses and learning to ride! The term "Pony" refers to young riders, mainly ages 5 – 12 years old who have a passion for horses and want to learn to ride. Pony Club fundamentals include instruction, safety, sportsmanship, stewardship, and leadership. The skills, habits, and values instilled through horsemanship apply to many aspects of life. Good horsemanship extends far beyond skills in the saddle!
Children will build relationships with their horses, enjoy hands on learning and foster new friendships in this fun group setting class. Pony Club members gain an impressive depth of knowledge in equine behavior, training, health and fitness, nutrition, veterinary care, and the correct use of equipment. Each week the hour will be split up between a ground lesson and a riding lesson. Parents will stay with their children for the duration of the one hour class.
There is a one time $25 fee to join our Pony Club to cover supplies and registration. Classes meet weekly on Fridays at 4:00 and last one hour. Pony Club Monthly Fee is $150 and includes attendance to 4 consecutive classes. Space is limited per month, so make sure to register!
Meet The Team
Head Instructor; Katelynn Cooper
Katelynn is a Greenville native, and has been teaching exclusively at Sassy Stables since 2021 as our head instructor. Don't let her young appearance fool you, she has an impressive riding background with over 10 years of training and riding experience. Katelynn has a passion for teaching and loves to find new and exciting ways to pass her knowledge on to her students. We work with students of all ages, provide helmets, and have both English or Western tack for whatever your preference or goals may be.
Our lesson program requires students to be involved in the grooming and tacking process on the very first day. They soon learn all the names and functions of the grooming tools and equipment, how to halter and lead, bathe, crosstie, administer first aid, wrap legs, banket, feed, and of course - ride with confidence.
Horsemanship is the cornerstone of our lesson program. While physically riding is the main focus of our lessons, we foster an interest in learning more than just how to ride. We encourage students to want to learn about the whole horse including their care, breeds and markings, how they communicate, and everything involved with training and exercise. We teach about tack, different types of equipment, and how to keep everything clean and maintained. We teach handling on the ground, and why it's important to become a well-rounded equestrian.
